As a training provider we share a mutual ethos with Middlesbrough Community Learning: the spread of knowledge and practical skills to people in our community in order to better equip them for their careers or simply self-improvement. Our partnership allows us to provide two free courses to local people taught by JD Training: One-Day Emergency First Aid at Work and the Three-Day Health and Social Care Taster Course. All you need is to live at a Middlesbrough address and be 19 or over.

We’re bringing our high-quality training to you by operating these courses from a range of centres across Middlesbrough and by offering them for free they’re easier to access than ever and will give you invaluable life-skills and possible opportunities at employment.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work Course provides first aid knowledge that will enable participants to assess casualties, manage incidents, and develop CPR skills and life support techniques. Specifics include preparing action plans and providing direct treatment treatment for choking, shock, wounds and much more. Upon completion participants will receive a certificate valid for three years.

On the Three-Day Health & Social Care Taster Course you will learn: what the role of a carer is and what makes good care; communication and safeguarding; overview of the needs of those with physical disabilities, dementia, learning disabilities and mental health; what is personal care and an introduction to personal care tasks including catheter & stoma care infection control and medication awareness. Over the 3 days you will see what the job entails and which avenue is best for you. For more information click here.

Working in social care is about providing personal and practical support to help people live their lives as independently as possible. There are lots of different roles in social care depending on what you want to do, who you want to work with and where you’d like to work. You could be supporting someone with a physical disability, autism, dementia or a mental health condition. You could be working in a care home, out in your local community, in a hospital or from someone’s home.
